Starting new projects is always fun and my new project for this site is to get back to daily/weekly devotionals. Over the next few weeks I’m going to focus on Psalm 119. Some of this I wrote a while ago and some has been edited more recently. Feedback and personal perspectives are always welcome!
Psalm 119:1-8 (MSG)
You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by GOD.
You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him.
That’s right–you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set.
You, GOD, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it.
Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set;
Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel.
I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways.
I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me.
Isn’t it great to know that if we stay on course, if we stay focussed we’ll be blessed. It’s easily said that we’ll follow His directions and do our “best to find him” but sometimes putting those two simple things into practice are the most difficult tasks for us to do!
Daily we are fed by television, radio and other media that tells us to stray from the course to follow the “road less traveled” but we need to remember what God’s word says, walk “steadily on the road revealed by God!” This road could be a road frequently traveled or traveled by none, it all depends on how many others are following His command and what your particular path may be.
If we follow Him and do our best to seek Him in all that we do we can come boldly before Him and say “Father, I come to you with no regrets. I’ve lived my life according to Your teachings and I’ve followed the path that you cleared for me.”
“I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways.” How many people can you say something like that to? With God we know exactly where we stand; there is no guess work as to what He thinks about specific situations. By listening to God’s heart we get to know His character and the “pattern of His righteous ways.” His ways don’t change; we may not always like (in our own sin) His ways, but when it comes down to His ways versus ours we know that His are right, true and just.
“I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me.” When we can truly say this without any inhibition in our hearts, when we fully hand our lives over to Him, we won’t need to worry about Him ever leaving us! It’s not always EASY to do what He tells us to do; it’s not always easy to do the “right” thing but when we come to a full realization of His love for us and our love for Him the “doing” will become easier.
In His Service,
Danielle Carroll
